Bats are mysteriously dying across Gotham City - could it be connected to the return of the mysterious Arkham Knight? Time for Batman to do some detecting! One of Peter Tomasi’s worst books was also called Arkham Knight and it was based on the Rocksteady video game so it’s amazing that he’s written another book called Arkham Knight that’s equally as bad! In the previous book, the character was awful - they were called that purely because the series of games was called “Arkham…” - and nothing about the character was actually connected to the asylum so the forced name didn’t make sense。 Here, the new Arkham Knight’s name makes slightly more sense but the character is still awful - maybe even worse! Nothing about the new Arkham Knight’s character or motivations is understandable。 (view spoiler)[She was born in Arkham Asylum and all of the inmates just happened to band together to ensure her safety and raise her and that’s why she has their loyalty forever - WHY?! So all the inmates were complicit and all of them were locked up together at the same time and they all decided this collectively? It’s so stoopid! Where did she get the armour from? Why is she so fixated on knights? What does she hope to accomplish by blinding everyone in Gotham? She just happened to be crazy but not crazy enough to be bad at realising her crazy goals? Who are these followers who aren’t Arkham inmates - why are they following her, what do they get out of it? (hide spoiler)] Everything about this character and story is beyond contrived and unconvincing。 What’s more shocking is that Tomasi manages to cram this book with stories featuring not just one of the worst Batman characters of all time but two: the Reaper, the villain from Year Two, is back and this time is reaping in Gay Paree and Crete。 But, like the new Arkham Knight, this Reaper is also a newer, crappier version of the old, terrible character。 Batman punches them - the end。 Bleurgh。 Can we agree to never feature the Reaper - and the Arkham Knight too - in anything ever again please, DC?Peter Tomasi is one of the best Batman writers - there are some real gems in his New 52 Batman & Robin run, and the preceding volume of Detective Comics isn’t bad either - but he’s also unfortunately more than capable of producing some absolute stinkers and Detective Comics, Volume 2: Arkham Knight is definitely down there as one of them。 Two godawful Batman villains in one book makes for a shockingly bad read - I highly recommend avoiding this! 。。。more

There is an aspect to this that feels like an alien took the old Batman show from the '70s and tried to adapt the camp and comedy as straight drama。 That tone never landed for me and kept me at arm's length the whole book。2。5 Did not enjoy, would not call again。 There is an aspect to this that feels like an alien took the old Batman show from the '70s and tried to adapt the camp and comedy as straight drama。 That tone never landed for me and kept me at arm's length the whole book。2。5 Did not enjoy, would not call again。 。。。more

Good heavens。 It pains me to write this but I can't decide whether I disliked it because the origin arc is so dull and uninspired, or if I've just gotten bored with the characters themselves。 I slogged through it more out of habit than want。 Good heavens。 It pains me to write this but I can't decide whether I disliked it because the origin arc is so dull and uninspired, or if I've just gotten bored with the characters themselves。 I slogged through it more out of habit than want。 。。。more

Really solid effort by Tomasi。 The story moves along well and doesn’t get bogged down。 I really like Damien’s involvement and interactions with his dad。 The villian is pretty compelling even if not super unique。 Brad Walker’s art is incredible and really makes the book worth it。

I, for one, didn't hate the villain。 I think his agenda/story were handled well enough。 However, I can totally understand why some people won't be that thrilled about this new villain or some of the weird decisions that took place in the book, which I was okay with。 I enjoyed it, for the most part。It's just a fun little adventure with Batman and Robin facing a new villain with some amazing illustrations by Brad Walker。 I think from the very get-go Tomasi's intention was to make a fun read, and o I, for one, didn't hate the villain。 I think his agenda/story were handled well enough。 However, I can totally understand why some people won't be that thrilled about this new villain or some of the weird decisions that took place in the book, which I was okay with。 I enjoyed it, for the most part。It's just a fun little adventure with Batman and Robin facing a new villain with some amazing illustrations by Brad Walker。 I think from the very get-go Tomasi's intention was to make a fun read, and overall, I think he did a solid job。3/5There's also a shorter story that involves Batman facing a villain named The Reaper which I haven't heard of that much, and it was okay。 2。5/5 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 It was nice but the plot was too easy。 And I don't understand how Astrid was born with the help of villains (Harley Quinn, Jocker, Ivy。。) 20 years ago。 Does that mean that Harley Quinn is like 50 now ? Same for Ivy ? That detail is really bothering me。 It was nice but the plot was too easy。 And I don't understand how Astrid was born with the help of villains (Harley Quinn, Jocker, Ivy。。) 20 years ago。 Does that mean that Harley Quinn is like 50 now ? It's ok。 The overall plot is pretty standard。 A new threat comes in, hits Batman hard。 He starts to investigate。 You get the full origin of the baddie (which also is not that unique) then Batman takes them down。 It isn't really clear what the Arkham Knight is trying to do though (other than the obvious of take down Batman。) The end comes very quickly and suddenly however, which only serves to lessen the Knight's importance。 I enjoyed the dialogue between Bruce and Damien and also Bruce and Alfre It's ok。 The overall plot is pretty standard。 A new threat comes in, hits Batman hard。 He starts to investigate。 You get the full origin of the baddie (which also is not that unique) then Batman takes them down。 It isn't really clear what the Arkham Knight is trying to do though (other than the obvious of take down Batman。) The end comes very quickly and suddenly however, which only serves to lessen the Knight's importance。 I enjoyed the dialogue between Bruce and Damien and also Bruce and Alfred。 。。。more

Weak plot, but still an enjoyable Batman read。 Overall, I'm so far enjoying Tomasi's Detective Comics (I adored his Batman & Robin) so, while I thought the story was eh, I still had a good time。 Arkham Knight's strongest "argument" was issue #1001 (the first issue in the book)。。。 It's a collection of full-page spreads of Batman "ruthlessly" fighting his foes; who are only poor, misunderstood, victims of his cruelty。 My favorites were of Man-Bat ("Even friends with chemichal dependencies are not Weak plot, but still an enjoyable Batman read。 Overall, I'm so far enjoying Tomasi's Detective Comics (I adored his Batman & Robin) so, while I thought the story was eh, I still had a good time。 Arkham Knight's strongest "argument" was issue #1001 (the first issue in the book)。。。 It's a collection of full-page spreads of Batman "ruthlessly" fighting his foes; who are only poor, misunderstood, victims of his cruelty。 My favorites were of Man-Bat ("Even friends with chemichal dependencies are not immune to his rage") and Ivy & Catwoman ("The Batman's assault on petty crimes is aggressive and excessive。 No matter the gender。。。")。 And of course, the page with Damian and NoBody was obviously "misunderstood"。I don't know who the "real" Arkham Knight is from the videogame, but I wasn't impressed by this reveal, finding it terribly weak in motivation (based on disinformation)。What I did like about this story/book was Batman and Damian and Alfred。 I adore a good Batfamily book with great relationship writing & I think Tomasi does that well。LOL, Damian criticizing how Batman handled himself with the knights。 Also。。。Batman: "So that's why *Arkham Knight spoiler* sees me as a curse hanging over Gotham。"Damian: Haven't we all at some pint?" Batman: Damian: "*Tt*。 Just kidding。"LOL!But there were a ton of sweet moments too; like when Bruce compliments Damian's drawing skills when he is sketching the Arkham Knight, or when Batman lets Damian drive the Batmobile。。。 。。。And how Batman literally has to lean on Damian at the end! Damian: "I'm right here。 I've got you。"Batman: "Lead the way, boy。"Oof <3So, all in all, the story is "fine" 3 stars, and the dialogue is a solid 4+Total rating of: 3。5 stars 。。。more

Why add the Arkham Knight but make them nowhere near as menacing or cool as the videogame? For obvious reasons the character had to be changed a bit, but this take is disappointing。 Weak character and weird confusing plot。 Too bad as I was really looking forward to this。

I enjoyed this graphic novel。 It was interesting。 This follows Batman as he deals with the Arkham Knight coming against him in a personal way。 The Arkham Knight hates Batman for reasons that make sense to the Knight。 The Arkham Knight has gathered people to work with the plans that the Knight has for Batman。It was a great story and the characters were great。I liked how this went。 It was interesting and fun。Overall I really enjoyed this graphic novel。

The Arkham Knight makes themselves known in the DC Universe proper as Peter Tomasi and Brad Walker's Detective Comics run continues。 Opening with the teaser story from issue #1000, the Arkham Knight story runs through #1000-1005。 It's not a bad idea in theory, but I definitely feel like it's something we've seen before。 There are only so many random members of this specific family that we can see before it gets a bit wrote。 I like that the Knight tries to drag Batman into the daylight, literally The Arkham Knight makes themselves known in the DC Universe proper as Peter Tomasi and Brad Walker's Detective Comics run continues。 Opening with the teaser story from issue #1000, the Arkham Knight story runs through #1000-1005。 It's not a bad idea in theory, but I definitely feel like it's something we've seen before。 There are only so many random members of this specific family that we can see before it gets a bit wrote。 I like that the Knight tries to drag Batman into the daylight, literally, and Damian's role in the book feels well earned given all the work Tomasi did with the pair of them back during the New 52。 The annual included here is a bit more compelling, with the return of the Black Casebook and the Reaper as well。 Possibly a little overlong (it is an annual after all), but a fun diversion, especially after the Arkham Knight main story。Brad Walker handles most of the Arkham Knight story with his super-detailed artwork; I've always been hyper critical of his faces when I've seen his art before, but he's definitely improving。 Doug Mahnke handles the prologue story, which is mostly splash pages so he really gets to let loose, while personal favourite Travis Moore tagteams the annual with Max Raynor。 This is a very good looking book, all else aside。Arkham Knight's alright (for fightin'), but not quite the big bombastic storyline that an issue 1000 deserved。 The annual perks things up and saves the volume, as does the lovely artwork throughout。 。。。more

As with the first volume, this is another volume of really disconnected stories that don't seem to have a coherent narrative among them other than "Batman good, fight bad men。" This is a shame because it starts with what could easily be one of the most interesting discussions about Batman and could've easily set up a way for him to come to a reckoning。 (Honestly, the book references 'Meghan and Harry's Wedding', so this set of comics is recent enough to come to terms with a billionaire playboy b As with the first volume, this is another volume of really disconnected stories that don't seem to have a coherent narrative among them other than "Batman good, fight bad men。" This is a shame because it starts with what could easily be one of the most interesting discussions about Batman and could've easily set up a way for him to come to a reckoning。 (Honestly, the book references 'Meghan and Harry's Wedding', so this set of comics is recent enough to come to terms with a billionaire playboy buying fancy toys and being a pretend cop when he could be giving his money to the city to invest。 In the form of taxes。)The character I'm referring to is Arkham Knight, and she starts off the conversation about how Batman is actually。。。 not as good as he seems。 And I think this is a cool point to check out, especially since Batman keeps institutionalising people (and that institution, much like real institutions, doesn't help anyone)。Instead, she's a villain working with other villains because she mistakenly thinks Batman killed her mother (when it was another villain who just used Batman's weapons, erm。。。)。 I feel like so many of the writers for Batman, especially in the present iterations, just side-step what could actually be interesting conversations to have? And so the stories are boring and fall flat。Maybe Batman should take at least one page out of the changes made by the Mask of Zorro: Zorro stops being billionaire playboy and passes the mask to an Every Man Character to take his place。 。。。more

While not as strong as volume 1 I'm still enjoying my time with Tomasi's Batman run。 So the Arkham Knight from the video games was just the Red Hood。 Here, they are a completely new character。 They are hunting down Batman and trying to convince him the errors of his way。 So Batman and Robin team up for some old time kickass adventure。 The negative is the story of the Arkham Knight is far fetched and the idea of aging is thrown completely out of the window。 As if Harley Quinn is somehow 20 someth While not as strong as volume 1 I'm still enjoying my time with Tomasi's Batman run。 So the Arkham Knight from the video games was just the Red Hood。 Here, they are a completely new character。 They are hunting down Batman and trying to convince him the errors of his way。 So Batman and Robin team up for some old time kickass adventure。 The negative is the story of the Arkham Knight is far fetched and the idea of aging is thrown completely out of the window。 As if Harley Quinn is somehow 20 something at one point and now over 40?
